Sensemedic works out-of-the-box; no installation steps are required. The patient places the medication in the Sensemedic dispenser. On the prescribed time the patient opens the dispenser and takes their medication. Each opening is registered by the system. In addition, patients can be reminded when they forget their medication.
Sensemedic is used in clinical and research projects. In these projects Sensemedic increases patient adherence. Patients use more of their prescribed medication and they use their medication on the prescribed time.

Sensemedic provides real-time monitoring of a patient’s use of medication in a Sensemedic server. Each time the patient opens the dispenser to take the medication, this “medication event” is received and stored.
Sensemedic reminds patients through text messaging. Messages are only sent if the patient forgets to take the medication. This real-time intervention is a proven, effective way to enhance medication adherence.
With Sensemedic the use of medication is directly visible to healthcare professionals. Through secure user accounts the data will be available on the Sensemedic web portal in real-time. For research projects anonymized data can be viewed and downloaded for further analysis.
Sensemedic connects to the server through a cellular connection. Therefore, Sensemedic’s real-time medication monitoring and smart reminding work out of the box. There is no extra step required to link the system to other devices using Bluetooth or WIFI.
